Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why should my child attend your camps? Don’t they get instruction from their little league coaches?
A: Eagle Baseball Academy is lead by high school coaches from your local area. While most local youth and travel team coaches have some knowledge of baseball, this is a chance for young players to get instruction by professionally trained and experienced coaches who do this for a living. They get the opportunity and benefit of working on their skills 4 days a week and 4 hours a day during summer camp or 3 hours a week during our fall program. This sort of intensive practice is difficult to for local youth and travel team coaches to accommodate. Kids get to work with our high school and college players who provide positive “big buddy” role models. Kids get exposed to the high school itself and develop a comfort level long before its time for them to start high school.
Q: My child is 7. Isn’t he too young to be at camp with kids as old as 15?
A: At summer camp, the players are divided into groups according to age. Your 7 year old will spend most of the session with other 7 and 8 year olds doing drills and playing games appropriate to his/her age and level of ability. The clinics focus on individual abilities, so a child of any age will benefit.
Q: What should my child bring to camp?
A: They should bring a bat, mitt, lunch and water to stay hydrated throughout the morning. They shouldn’t bring electronic games or anything else distracting or valuable. Please make sure everything brought to camp is clearly marked with your child’s name.
Q: What should my child wear?
A: Appropriate baseball attire, which includes cleats and a baseball cap. Children can wear shorts and tee shirts, but baseball pants and tee shirts are preferred to protect thighs during drills on sliding. Kids should also arrive already wearing sunscreen. Most kids wear baseball tees and pants and enjoy taking a professional attitude toward camp.
Q: What if it rains?
A: Camps are run rain or shine. We have a state of the art covered batting facility and so we can focus on batting and indoor drills on rainy days.
Q: How many kids will be there at a time? I heard you get as many as 100 players in a camp.
A: We divide the players by age group at summer camp. Each group generally has up to 25 players, although, since players come and go according to their own schedules, there are often much fewer than 25 at any given moment. Each group is supervised by one coach and several assistant coaches from our High School program. We have an excellent coach to player ratio.
Q: How do you accommodate so many players at Clayton Valley High?
A: The facility has one main field and three practice fields, so there is a field available to each age group. The facility also has batting cages available for practice.
Q: I’m not familiar with the campus. Where do we go the first day?
A: Park in the main lot in front of school. Then walk directly across the field toward the back of the campus to our main baseball field. You’ll see the football stadium to your left. There will be someone at the entrance of the field to check in your child on the first day.
